Yummy yummy - Salmon Fried Rice



    When people ask me, "What's Taiwanese food like?" Fried rice always come into my mind. I don't know how other Taiwanese think about fried rice, but personally... I love it!
    Fried rice is easy and tasty, it gives rice another flavor by cooking it with other food. It's amazing! :)
    There are many kinds of fried rice, since you can almost mix anything with it. The only thing you need is some basic ingredients, then you can add almost anything you like! :)

First thing you'll have to know that, there are actually a few kinds of rice. Some of long, some are short; some are thin, some are thick; some are sticky, and some are not. Personally, I love the short and sticky ones.

Now here's the ingredient you'll need.
1. Rice
2. Garlic
3. Onions
4. Green onions
5. Carrots
6. Tomatoes
7. Eggs
8. Smoked salmon
9. Oil


Then let's get started!
Step 1
Wash and soak the rice before you cook it.

If it's for one person, then put one cup of rice; if it's for two, then put two, and so on.
It's important to wash and soak it before cooking. But it's even more important to be careful when you do it, because if you wash it too slow and too hard, you'll ruin the rice.
After washing it, you should soak it in hot water for 15 to 60 minutes, depends on how you like it to be.
The water you put in shouldn't be too much, about 1 cm above the rice.





Step 2
Cut all the ingredients for later.

Personally I cut garlic first, then onions, carrots, tomato, green onions. And that's also the order for cooking later. There's no limit for how you cut them, just do it as you like, but of course, it's easier to cook them if they're thinner.
I cut the onions in two different ways.

I also cut the carrots in two different ways.

I usually use bigger tomatoes, not grape tomatoes. But either way is fine. :)

Step 3
Put in the ingredients in order.

After you're done with preparing your ingredients, now here comes the cooking part.
First, preheat your pan before pouring the oil in.
Second, let the oil stay on the pan for a while before you put garlic in.
Third, put in onions, carrots, tomatoes later on.

Step 4
Put the rice in.

When the ingredients are cooked, the rice should be ready as well. So now, crack an egg in before you put the rice in.
After the egg and the rice, just put the salmon in.
Then it's pretty much done! :)


If you want it to have more flavor, you can add some ketchup, sugar, salt, soy sauce and sesame oil. They're perfect for any kind of fried rice.
